China Table Manners


1.Put the chopsticks on the side of bowl or plate while taking break.  Use the chopsticks rests if the are provided. Don’t drink beverages while holding chopsticks. leaving chopsticks on the bowl is a sign that you have finished and server might remove it.

2.It is common the lift your bowl and push rice into your month by chopsticks.

3.Making noise when having noodle is acceptable but it would be considered as rude behavior while drinking soup.

4.Sticking your chopsticks in the middle of the bowl of rice is unacceptable.  Usually people use that way to incense ancestors.

5.Never point at food with your chopsticks or gesture in the air while talking.
